If a subjective declaration of identity is enough to override every objective criterion, then why should limits and rules exist? If tomorrow I declare that, even though my ID card states ‘man’, I self-identify as a woman, should I have access to every space and privilege designated for women, without any other requirement? It is a question that many consider self-evident, others deeply problematic, and others feel that we are now at the beginning of another dystopian era.

Let us come, then, to the ‘Age of Reason’ or ‘Political Correctness’ to look at the following news piece, where the concepts of identity, conscience, and rights clash with the law: ‘Catholic nuns face legal prosecution’.”
“According to the SKAI article, the case concerns an order of Catholic nuns who run a free palliative care unit in New York. The nuns argue that state legislation obliges them to comply with the ‘LGBTQIA+ Bill of Rights’, which provides, among other things, for the use of patients’ preferred pronouns, access to restrooms according to gender identity, and the non-assignment of rooms based on biological sex. See the relevant article at skai.gr. * Let us analyze the above paragraph from the article:
Use of patients’ preferred pronouns: Clinic employees must address each patient in the way they themselves wish, depending on how they feel (e.g., ‘he’, ‘she’, or ‘it/they’), and not necessarily based on what their ID states.
Example: If a patient was born biologically male (e.g., Marios), but self-identifies as a woman, the nuns and the staff must address them using ‘she’ (e.g., ‘Maria needs her medication’ instead of ‘Marios needs his medication’).
Access to restrooms based on gender identity: Each person can use the restroom that corresponds to the gender they feel they belong to, and not based on their biological sex!!!
Example: A trans woman (i.e., a person born with a male body but living as a woman) has the right to use the women’s restrooms in the clinic.
Non-assignment of rooms based on biological sex: What it means: When assigning patient rooms, the clinic must not place people together solely because they share the same biological sex (i.e., based on their genitalia), but must take into account how they self-identify.
Example: If the clinic has double rooms, it cannot deny a trans woman from sharing a room with another woman, even if the trans woman has biologically male characteristics.
The nuns themselves believe that these requirements conflict with their religious beliefs and, having not received an exemption from the authorities, turned to the justice system. They argue that their refusal does not stem from hostility toward trans individuals, but from conscience and the teachings of the Catholic Church regarding gender.
The article also states that if they do not comply, they may face fines, loss of their operating license, and other penalties. At the same time, it points out that the US Department of Justice intervened in favor of the nuns, arguing that the State of New York is violating the protection of religious freedom and equal treatment.
LGBTQIA+ The acronym LGBTQIA+ is used as an umbrella term to describe different sexual orientations, gender identities, and related groups. It is broken down as follows:
- L – Lesbian: A woman who is emotionally and/or sexually attracted to women.
- G – Gay: A man who is attracted to men. It is also often used as a general term for homosexual individuals.
- B – Bisexual: A person who is attracted to more than one gender.
- T – Transgender: A person whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.
- Q – Queer or Questioning: Either individuals who do not fit into traditional definitions of gender identity or sexual orientation (queer), or individuals who are in the process of exploring their identity (questioning).
- I – Intersex: A person born with biological sex characteristics (chromosomes, gonads, or anatomy) that do not correspond exclusively to the typical definitions of male or female.
- A – Asexual: A person who experiences little or no sexual attraction. In some contexts, the ‘A’ can also include the concepts of Aromantic and Agender.
- + (plus): Indicates that there are other identities and orientations not explicitly named in the acronym, such as pansexual, non-binary, genderfluid, demisexual, and others.”
